Seize the Day (Fundamentals of Business #6)

We are only offered so many opportunities in life to do the big things we want to do. This can be difficult to accept sometimes. Our society wants everyone to believe that we have infinite opportunities, but that typically just isn’t the case. This requires some consideration when we’re making big decisions.

If you get to this point and everything still makes sense, and it makes sense with your and your family’s life goals, then it’s time to seize the day. You may not get a second chance.

There’s no such thing as a perfect situation. There’s no perfect spouse, perfect house, or perfect job out there. In most of life, the perfect is truly the enemy of the good. Little issues or items of preference can often lead to paralysis, as we let minor details frustrate us in passing up great chances for success. In business this is doubly harmful, because the earliest years tend to be the leanest years. Each year you wait is cutting off a year of potential major financial upside at the end of your career. The earlier you start, the more time you will have to reap the rewards for your business successes.

If you’ve gotten this far in the process, you’ve already figured out what you’re good at and have a general plan on how to make a business work doing it. You’ve found an opportunity and have carefully examined all aspects of your potential acquisition or startup. If you get to this point and everything still makes sense, and it makes sense with your and your family’s life goals, then it’s time to seize the day. You may not get a second chance.
